NOTEBOOK: Hunting season gets into gear

Hunting season has started on Grand Island, and residents are cautioned about going into the woods while hunters are out.

Grand Island Supervisor Peter McMahon reminded residents that bow hunting season began this past week.

“People who do happen to go into the woods should be extremely cautious,” he said.

He noted that it is illegal to discharge a firearm within 500 feet of a residence. While shotgun season begins Nov. 18, hunters should remember that muzzle-loaded guns, pistols and rifles are illegal on Grand Island, he said.

Hunting season ends Dec. 19.

Senior discount at Island Deli

If you are 60 or older and willing to admit it, you can get 10 percent off your order on Wednesdays at the Island Deli and Meat Market on Grand Island Boulevard.

Owner Danielle St. Onge also sent a word of thanks to the customers who are supporting her store, and to the new customers who are making their way to the store each day.

Those looking for a chuckle might want to ask her about the “Bulldog Buffet.”
