If you’ve always held a secret desire to learn to play black jack but are intimidated by the local casinos, you have the perfect chance to learn the game at the Las Vegas Night being held by the Knights of Columbus, at 8 p.m. to midnight on Nov. 4.
“We’re also one of the few places that still has a roulette table,” Brian said, “because they don’t rent them out anymore. I just happen to have one.”
Where did he get the roulette table? Where else? “I picked it up at a garage sale,” he said.
Black Jack will start at $1 a hand, said Brian Mongielo, adding that all the games are cheaper than at the casinos, and plus a percentage of the funds raised goes to the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation. The event will be held at the Knights headquarters at 1841 Whitehaven Road.

Benefit for a good cause
If you’ve ever eaten at the Village Inn Restaurant, you may have met Sheri Robinson-Cooney, who probably enhanced your meal with her ready smile. Or, your children might know her as one of the friendly lunch monitors at the elementary schools.
Friends and family are gathering around Sheri these days as she battles a very aggressive form of breast cancer. A benefit will be held for her on Oct. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Rod and Gun Club, at 1083 Whitehaven Rd.
There will be Bills and Sabres tickets to win, a basket auction, and a raffle, besides lots of food and drinks.
Anyone that wants to donate prizes can still do so by calling Dana Robinson at 775-1322 or Kathy Yensan, at 775-0472.
