GI NOTEBOOK: New blinking light at Baseline and Staley

October 06, 2006 12:17 pm

Drivers used to the blinking light at Baseline and Staley Road, will be holding their foot on the brake a few seconds longer these days.
A new stoplight was put up on Baseline and Staley Road this past week and Grand Island officials are cautioning drivers to pay attention because the light has been changed from a blinking light to a traffic signal.
“It’s a welcome addition,” said Councilman Dick Crawford, the town board’s liaison to the Grand Island Traffic Safety Advisory Board, noting that the corner experiences heavy workday traffic due to three industrial businesses on Staley Road, including American Pharmaceuticals, Invitrogen, and Astrella Pharma Manufacturing.
Local officials expect it to take some time for drivers to get used to the signals. Those who need to be reminded can expect to see temporary signage along the road, warning of the upcoming signal light, Crawford said.
