Add Rus Thompson, a Republican, and Democrat Michele Iannello to the still-growing chorus of disapproval regarding Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s proposal to give illegal immigrants drivers licenses.
“I wish he would reconsider,” said Erie County 10th District Legislator Iannello when posed the question.
“I’m the kind of legislator that does a lot of research and gets the facts before making a decision,” said the Democratic candidate. “He seems like he’s flying by the seat of his pants.”
Thompson, for his part, put out a press release Tuesday on the matter.
“I find it appauling (sic) that the governor continues with his drive to give licenses to illegals in New York state,” said in the statement.
“I stand beside and with my Republican colleagues in the Assembly and the Senate that are calling for the immediate halt to this absurd executive order,” he said.
“The Erie County Legislature needs to pass a resolution immediately in complete opposition to this clear violation of the Law and step up to protect the residents of Erie County,” said the candidate.
“What part of illegal don’t they understand?”
